Innovations add speed, accuracy to background screenings

Background screening can be a time-consuming step in candidate recruitment, especially considering the tediousness of data entry in the hiring process. Companies turn to background check vendors to reduce time to hire, with new solutions providing much-needed speed and accuracy to the experience.

Innovations include real-time updates so candidates see where they are in the process, as well as e-signature options, branded interfaces, and improved integration with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). OPENonline partners with industry-leading companies for ATS integrations that allow our clients to request background checks using data already available in their human resource management systems.

ATS incorporates recruitment needs electronically into a single, manageable application that collects and maintains information needed for EEOC and/or OFCCP compliance. In addition, ATS reduces the burden of having to sift through scores of resumes from candidates who are not qualified for the job, dramatically decreasing administrative costs.

OPENonline's Applicant Direct system, meanwhile, reduces the arduous task of data entry. Candidates enter their data from a secure web portal, saving human resources personnel from having to input the information themselves. Not only does the system streamline data entry, it also cuts down on up-front errors that can hinder the employment screening process.

Full-time workers aren't the only applicants who require background checks. Contract workers made up 40 percent of the U.S. workforce in 2015, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, and more organizations are performing background checks on these temporary or contingent hires. OPENonline's suite of employment screening services covers temporary workers in industries including transportation, healthcare and finance.

Technology is also playing a role in how companies handle the I-9 employment eligibility form, which verifies a worker's employment qualifications through collection of their personal information. As the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a revised version of the form earlier this year, employers are seeking efficient solutions for what used to be a cumbersome, paper-based process.

OPENonline's I-9 Manager electronically stores I-9 forms, reducing paperwork and storage while reminding clients when their forms are expiring. Our service also verifies each form and greatly decreases your exposure to government audits, financial penalties and negative publicity resulting from non-compliance.

OPENonline is a trusted source for comprehensive background screenings. For more information, visit our website.
